Animated trash bin icon for Home Assistant

A plain wheelie bin: closed with the lid shut, open with the lid lifted back on its hinge over an empty bin, and full with a stuffed bag bulging out so the lid cannot close.

3 states: closed, open and full. Part of the garden & outdoor icons in the Animara Full Pack.

States of the trash bin icon

The card picks the state from your entity, so the icon always shows what the trash bin is doing.

  • ClosedResting state, shown when the device is off or idle.
  • Open
  • Full

Which Home Assistant entities fit

  • Picked automatically when the entity or device name contains "trash", "bin", "garbage", "waste", on switch, input_boolean, binary_sensor or sensor entities.
  • Any entity that is simply on or off, such as a switch or input_boolean: on shows open, off shows closed. Entity states named like a state below (for example full) are used directly.
  • Works with any entity whose state you map: pick this icon in the card and map your entity's own state words to these states with the card's states: option.

How to use it in Home Assistant

  1. Install the Animara card: one link install, HACS as a custom repository, or copy animara-card.js to /config/www.
  2. Edit your dashboard, choose Add card, then Animara.
  3. Pick your entity. Choose Trash bin in the Icon list if it is not detected automatically.
  4. Paste your Full Pack license key into the License key field once per dashboard.

Prefer YAML? This is all it takes:

type: custom:animara-card
entity: switch.trash_bin
icon: trash_bin

Mapping words yourself looks like this:

states:
  "on": full
