Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 28, 2026
We want you to know exactly what happens with your information when you visit this site, buy Animara, or use your license. Here it is, in plain words.
The short version
- Lemon Squeezy handles checkout and payment. We never see your card details.
- This site uses Google Analytics only if you accept it in the cookie banner. No ads, no other tracking.
- Our license and download service sees your license key, a one-way home code and your IP address, which is only used briefly to stop abuse.
- Each copy carries an invisible mark. We record which license it belongs to, with a hash of your email, never the email itself.
- We never sell your data. Ask us any time to see or delete it.
Who we are
Animara makes animated device icons for smart home dashboards. Animara is a small independent business run by one person in Israel. When this policy says "we" or "us", it means Animara.
If you have any question about your data, write to animara.icons@gmail.com. A real person reads every email.
What we collect and why
We collect as little as we can. Here is everything, grouped by where it happens.
When you buy
Checkout runs on Lemon Squeezy, which acts as the merchant of record for our sales. Lemon Squeezy handles the payment, your card details, sales tax or VAT, and your invoice. We never see or store your card details.
Lemon Squeezy shares with us what we need to fulfill your order: your name, your email address, what you bought, the order number, your license key and its status, and the country used for tax. We use this to deliver your purchase, answer your questions, handle refunds, and keep our accounting records.
When you use your license key
Our license server and our download service run as small functions on Netlify. When the Home Assistant card activates or checks your license, or when you request your download on the download page, these functions receive:
- Your license key, to check with Lemon Squeezy that it is valid and belongs to the Full Pack.
- An instance name from the card, which is a short one-way code computed from your Home Assistant settings. It tells your homes apart for the 3 home limit. It cannot be turned back into your address, location or anything else readable.
- Your IP address, used only to limit how many requests can come from one address in a short time, so nobody can hammer the service. These counters live in the function's temporary memory for about 10 minutes and are never written to storage.
To protect the pack against leaks, every downloaded copy and every icon the card shows carries an invisible mark linked to your license. When we issue a mark, we store one record for it in Netlify Blobs, Netlify's private storage, with:
- the license id, the order id and the Lemon Squeezy customer id;
- a keyed, one-way hash of your email address, so we can confirm a match if a copy leaks, but never your email address itself and never your license key;
- when the mark was first and last issued, and whether it came from the card or a download.
We use these records only to find out which license a leaked copy came from. When we investigate a leak, we may copy these records to our own computer.
We also store your personal marked copy of the pack in Netlify Blobs, so a repeat download is quick, and a daily counter of download links per license to stop a shared key from being abused. The counter is filed under a one-way hash of the key, not the key itself.
When you email us
If you write to us, we receive your email address, your message and anything you attach. For a custom icon, that includes the photo of your device. We use it to help you and, for a photo, only to draw your icon. We never publish your photo.
Hosting logs
Like any website, our host Netlify processes technical data such as IP addresses, the pages and files requested and the browser type, to serve the site, protect it and limit abusive traffic. Our functions also write short technical logs, such as a license id, an order id and the mark code, to help us fix problems. These logs never contain your email address or your license key.
The Home Assistant card
The card only goes online to activate and now and then recheck your license. It sends your license key and the instance name described above to Lemon Squeezy's license service and to our license server. It never sends your entities, device states, dashboards or usage.
To keep working offline, the card saves its activation in your browser's storage and a small random value in your Home Assistant user data. These stay on your own devices and we cannot read them.
Cookies and this website
This website runs no ads. It uses one analytics tool, Google Analytics, and only after you choose Accept in the cookie banner.
If you accept, Google Analytics sets cookies and records anonymous visit statistics: which pages are viewed, roughly where visitors come from, which device and browser they use, and when someone clicks a buy button. We use this only to understand which parts of the site help visitors. If you choose No thanks, Google Analytics is never loaded. Your choice is saved in your browser's local storage; clear it to see the banner again.
If you switch between the light and dark theme, your choice is saved in your browser's local storage so the site remembers it next time. It never leaves your device. The interactive demo on the home page runs entirely in your browser.
The site loads its typeface from a public web font service, so your browser connects to that service, which can see your IP address.
When you click a buy button, you go to Lemon Squeezy's checkout page. That page is run by Lemon Squeezy, may use its own cookies, and is covered by Lemon Squeezy's own privacy policy.
Update emails, only if you ask
We email you about new features and fixes only if you said yes: with the button on your download page, in your dashboard, or from a link we sent you. Nothing is ticked for you, and buying does not sign you up.
When you say yes, we keep a record of it: your email address, the date and time, where you said it, the exact words you agreed to, and the IP address and browser it came from. When you unsubscribe, we keep a record of that too. We keep these records so we can always show that we only email people who asked, and we never delete them while we send update emails.
Unsubscribing: every update email has an unsubscribe link, and Gmail and Apple Mail also show their own unsubscribe button. One click is enough, it takes effect at once, and you will get no more update emails. You can also reply "unsubscribe" or write to animara.icons@gmail.com. Emails about your own order and your support questions are separate and are not affected.
Update emails contain only news about the Animara products you own: no ads, no offers, and at most about one email a month.
How long we keep it
- IP address counters in our functions: about 10 minutes, in temporary memory only.
- Mark records: for as long as your license exists and for up to 3 years after your last download or license check, so we can still trace a leak. After a refund, for up to 3 years after the refund.
- Your marked copy of the pack: kept so repeat downloads are quick. We can delete it at any time and rebuild it the next time you download.
- Daily download counters: deleted after 30 days.
- Hosting and function logs: kept by Netlify for a short period set by Netlify.
- Emails: as long as we need them to help you, and no longer than 3 years after our last exchange, unless the law requires us to keep them longer.
- Custom icon photos: deleted within 90 days after we deliver your icon or refund it.
- Order records held by Lemon Squeezy: kept by Lemon Squeezy as its policy and tax law require.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us at any time to see the personal information we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it. Write to animara.icons@gmail.com from the email address you used to buy, and we will reply within 30 days.
If you ask us to delete your data, we will delete your emails, your marked copy and any records we can link to you. We may keep what we need to keep by law, such as accounting records. For data held by Lemon Squeezy, we will pass your request on or point you to Lemon Squeezy directly.
We process your information to deliver what you bought and support it, to protect the pack from misuse, which is our legitimate interest, and to meet legal duties such as accounting. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to object to some processing, to receive a copy of your data, or to complain to your local data protection authority. We would always be glad to hear from you first.
Keeping it safe
The site is served only over an encrypted connection. Our functions and storage are private and need secret keys that never leave our servers. Download links are signed and expire after 15 minutes. On the download page, a license key in the page link stays in your browser and is removed from the address bar. No system is perfect, but we work to keep the data we hold small and safe.
Children
Animara is meant for adults who run a smart home. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, write to us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your data, we will update this page and the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will also say so on the home page.
