Animara for solar, batteries and wallboxes
Everything you need to show an energy system with Animara in Home Assistant. Updated 31 October 2026 for icon card 1.2.15 and dashboards 0.37.3. With the one link install both arrive by themselves.
1. The fastest way: Animara Home
Animara Home finds the sensors of a solar system, a house battery, the grid, the house use and a wallbox by itself and shows them in an Energy section on the home page, in every look, Float and Glow included. It reads names in English and German, for example PV power, PV-Leistung, Speicher, Batteriespeicher, Netzbezug, Einspeisung, Hausverbrauch and Wallbox. Phone and car batteries and the power of single plugs stay out.
- The tiles are read only: a tap changes nothing in your system.
- Missing one? Tap the pencil, then Add: energy sensors are in the list.
- Do not want it? In edit mode remove the tiles or the whole section. A removed tile never comes back by itself.
2. Your own dashboard: the icon card
One card per sensor. Choosing the icon yourself is always the safest way:
type: custom:animara-card
entity: sensor.solar_power
icon: solar_panel
layout: rich # or: tile, icon
| Sensor | icon |
|---|---|
| Solar power (W) | solar_panel or solar_inverter |
| House battery power (W) | home_battery or battery_wall |
| House battery level (%) | battery_level |
| Wallbox power or status | ev_charger |
| Grid import, feed in | energy_meter |
| House use | energy_monitor |
| Heat pump (switch or climate) | heat_pump |
Extra details on the same card, all optional: battery_entity (a level sensor shown on the battery or wallbox), power_entity (a power sensor next to a status sensor), energy_entity (today's energy, shown as Today on solar and Session on a wallbox) and max_power (the system size in kW, so solar shows how full it runs).
3. How the card picks an icon by itself
- An icon set on the card always wins.
- The device class of the sensor. A power or energy sensor whose name says solar, PV, Wechselrichter, battery, Speicher, wallbox or Ladestation shows that device. Any other power sensor shows the energy monitor; a battery class sensor shows a battery.
- Words in the entity id and the name, in English and German: heat pump and Wärmepumpe, washing machine and Waschmaschine, dishwasher and Geschirrspüler, shutter and Rollladen, and many more.
- The device name and the make, then the domain.
4. Charging or discharging: the sign
A house battery power above 0 W shows Charging (green), below 0 W Discharging (orange), 0 W idle. Some inverters and integrations count the other way round. If yours shows discharging while it charges, make a template sensor with the opposite sign and use that one on the card:
template:
- sensor:
- name: Battery power (charging positive)
unit_of_measurement: W
device_class: power
state: "{{ states('sensor.YOUR_BATTERY_POWER') | float(0) * -1 }}"
5. Your language
The status words on the card (Charging, Producing, Charged, just now and more) follow your Home Assistant language in 23 languages; on a German Home Assistant they read Lädt, Erzeugt, Geladen and gerade eben. States that come from an integration itself, for example a wallbox reporting its own words, are shown as Home Assistant gives them.
6. Where the files come from
With the one link install your browser loads Animara from animara.io when a dashboard opens, together with its translations. Nothing from your home is sent there. If you prefer to keep everything inside your own network, download the files once from animara.io/download and add them as local resources, as the install guide shows. Updates then come when you download again.
